Dutchman Hubert “The Wardrobe” Van Melick has combined brain and brawn to take out the heavyweight bout of chess boxing in London.
Chess boxing is a hybrid sport which combines boxing with chess over 11 alternating rounds. The ultimate test of strength and intellect sees competitors win the match either by a knock out or checkmate.
Van Melick took out the title at the Boston Dome in London with a checkmate victory over Patrick Teehan. The Dutchman outwitted Teehan in 24 moves to win the match and the title of heavyweight champion.
