The Tongan Hitman joins the Western Force

The Western Force have secured the services of Wellington Hurricanes’ winger David Smith for the upcoming Super 15 provincial season.

At 24 years old and hailing from Samoa, Smith scored seven tries in four appearances last season with the Hurricanes. He also played for the Barbarians, facing Ireland and England, where he found the try line against England at Twickenham.

Later this month, Smith is set to arrive in Perth after completing his obligations with Taranaki in New Zealand’s ITM Cup, where he teamed up with the new playmaker for Western Force, Willie Ripia.

Previously having been a part of the New Zealand Sevens team, Smith will take on the role of marquee player for the Western Force in the 2011 season.

This signing occurs a week after the Waratahs and Brumbies added two promising New Zealand wingers to their rosters. NSW has brought in Afa Pakalani, affectionately known as “The Tongan Hitman,” while Henry Speight is set to play in Canberra, both having been scouted during their performances in New Zealand’s ITM Cup this season.
