In early next year, Sonny Bill Williams will make his return to the boxing ring, as the All Blacks star is set to face Scott Lewis in a heavyweight clash in Newcastle.
After an impressive performance during the All Blacks’ undefeated grand slam tour of Britain and Ireland, Williams is scheduled to unveil the fight’s complete details on Wednesday; the bout is expected to occur on January 29.
Lewis, boasting a stronger boxing background than the last two opponents Williams faced, has previously defeated Parramatta Eels recruit and former Queensland Origin player Carl Webb.
This fight is just three weeks ahead of the Super Rugby season; however, the former NRL star seems to have the support of the New Zealand Rugby Union.
Reports indicate that Williams is permitted to participate in several fights throughout his 18-month agreement with the NZRU.
Scheduled to return to training with the Crusaders on February 1st, Williams will have a few days to recover before he begins preparing for his inaugural Super Rugby season.
