Sepp Blatter is a dodgy, dodgy fucker

FIFA has been urged by European nations to conduct an internal inquiry regarding last year’s scandal-ridden re-election of president Sepp Blatter.

In June, Blatter secured a fourth term as the leader of the global governing body for soccer after his only rival, Mohammed bin Hammam, withdrew from the competition following bribery allegations.

The Qatari was subsequently found guilty of corruption by FIFA’s ethics committee and received a lifetime ban.

On Tuesday, the Council of Europe’s culture, science, education, and media committee convened in Paris, where they approved a report regarding “good governance and ethics in sport.”

Additionally, the panel presented a draft resolution urging FIFA to further investigate the election scandal and to expedite its promised reforms.

According to the resolution, FIFA should “cast full light on the facts underlying the various scandals which, in recent years, have tarnished its image and that of international football.”

The full Assembly of the Council of Europe, made up of 318 parliamentarians from the 47 member states, will deliberate on the resolution on April 25.

It’s important to note that the Council cannot enforce binding laws and operates independently from the European Union.

Aside from the election matter, the committee also requested that FIFA disclose all documents related to the organization’s dealings with Swiss promoter ISL.

The collapse of the company in 2001 gave rise to allegations that certain FIFA officials were accepting kickbacks in exchange for television rights.

Furthermore, Blatter’s leadership came under scrutiny in November when he faced heavy backlash from the soccer community for comments regarding racism that were deemed insensitive.

While Blatter advocated for an end to racist behavior between players, he suggested that such issues should be resolved with a handshake, implying that racial abuse is similar to foul play.
