Next month, Scott Andrews from Victoria will return to the United States to participate in the two-round USF2000 Winterfest Series.
After demonstrating potential in two appearances with JDC Motorsport in the USF2000 Championship last year, Andrews is set to join the team once more.
John Church, the team owner, has chosen to trust the former Commodore Cup driver to handle the Van Diemen chassis equipped with the Mazda 2-litre engine.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me, and it’s great that John has chosen to take a chance on an overseas driver,” said Andrews.
“Even though the cars were all new last year and I had never visited the tracks before, we still proved our speed.
“The toughest challenge is that, having not spent my youth in the area, I’m not familiar at all with most of the racetracks we race on.
“In Australia, when you arrive at a new track, you generally recognize most of the lines and know which direction it goes since you’ve likely seen it on TV.”
Andrews debuted in the wings and slicks category at Laguna Seca last September and competed again a month later at the Houston street race at Reliant Park.
Aspiring to move up through the intricate US open-wheel feeder system to eventually reach IndyCar, the 23-year-old is also considering opportunities in sports cars.
“I’d love to race in IndyCar, but there are also opportunities in sports car endurance racing, so I must keep working hard and doing my best,” he expressed.
The 2014 USF2000 Winterfest will begin at NOLA Motorsport Park in New Orleans from February 21-22, followed by an event at Barber Motorsport Park in Alabama on February 25-26.
