According to a report from sports daily Marca, Real Madrid is considering a move to sign Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez if their attempts to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the club do not succeed.
Last month, Tevez made a surprising transfer request, citing poor relations with the Manchester City management. However, he later retracted the request following discussions intended to resolve the issues with the Barclays Premier League club.
Marca indicated that Real Madrid had previously made contact with City.
The publication noted two significant obstacles… the first being that City would demand a transfer instead of a loan, and the second that such a transfer would come with a cost of $A53.46 million, along with an annual salary for the Argentine of $10.69 million.
Real Madrid’s attempts to recruit 34-year-old Van Nistelrooy from Hamburg have been rejected, as the club stated he is not permitted to leave and must fulfill his contract.
In the wake of Gonzalo Higuain’s recent surgery on January 12 for a slipped disc—potentially sidelining him for another four months, with full recovery possibly taking up to a year—Real Madrid is actively looking to address the vacancy.
Following a surprising 1-1 draw against the last-placed Almeria over the weekend, Real find themselves four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
