Mundine must win against Wood…or retire

Anthony Mundine has acknowledged that his boxing career might be at risk when he faces Garth Wood in their rematch.

Displaying a notable absence of his usual confidence, Mundine attended a press conference on Wednesday to announce that the fight is confirmed to take place at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on April 13.

In a surprising turn of events, the former world champion suffered a shock defeat to Wood, an inexperienced winner from a boxing reality show, on December 8, getting knocked out in the fifth round after securing 17 straight wins.

That defeat in Sydney possibly eliminated his chances of competing for a World Boxing Association title, and Mundine conceded that a second loss to Wood could mean the end of his career.

“It could be, man,” Mundine stated.

“At this moment, I’m only focused on short-term objectives. In the past, I had been looking too far ahead.”

“My aim is to ensure victory. I have one purpose, one goal, and that is to win.”
