Mundine must win against Wood…or retire

Anthony Mundine has admitted his boxing career could be on the line when he meets Garth Wood in a rematch.

Lacking much of his trademark brashness, Mundine fronted a press conference on Wednesday to confirm the clash would go ahead at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on April 13.

The former world champion was stunned by inexperienced boxing reality tv show winner Wood on December 8, knocked out in the fifth round after a run of 17 straight wins.

That loss in Sydney potentially cost him a shot at a World Boxing Association title and Mundine agreed his career could be over if he hits the canvas again against Wood.

“It could be, man,” said Mundine.

“Right now I’m only looking at short-term goals. I was looking above and beyond too much in the past.

“I’ve got to be victorious. I’ve got one purpose, one goal and that is to win.”
