Stoner on pole for todays Spanish GP

Casey Stoner has stated that he and his Repsol Honda team ‘remain confident’ about securing victory tomorrow afternoon, despite the varied weather conditions in Valencia this weekend.

At the Circuit Ricardo Tormo during qualifying, the Australian secured his 12th pole position of the season, matching the record held by Mick Doohan.

“Of course I’m really happy with pole position today,” Stoner shared after the session. “After all, I’m still eager to win and achieve pole positions, which is the reason I participate in racing. While winning the Championship is a bonus at the end of the season, I always strive to perform my best in every session and race.

“Yesterday, I took fewer risks in the wet conditions as I didn’t feel we were making any headway. Today was also a challenge; there was light rain throughout all the sessions. This morning presented some wet patches, making it tough to know when to push, and the same scenario arose this afternoon, where certainty about how far to push was elusive.

“Nonetheless, we felt at ease, and the bike felt quite good, with a setup similar to the test we conducted here last year, allowing us to register a solid lap. Now, we’ll have to observe tomorrow’s weather and adjust accordingly, but our confidence remains intact.”
