Over the weekend, Jon Jones showcased heroism in multiple ways by thwarting a car theft in New Jersey just hours prior to securing the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
At just 23 years old, Jones became the youngest fighter to hold a title in UFC history after delivering a commanding performance against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the Light Heavyweight Championship match on Sunday.
His victory might have been influenced by the good karma he earned after intervening in a robbery involving a woman’s car.
Here’s Jones’s recounting of the incident, shared via his Twitter account.
“So, while we were at the park today, a crackhead smashed the window of this old lady’s car and bolted with her GPS just as we were arriving.
“Immediately, Coach Wink (Mike Winklejohn) chased after the guy. Without a moment’s thought, Coach (Greg) Jackson joined in… I was taken aback for a second, but then I dropped my phone and followed my coaches. Before long, we were sprinting up a steep hill in pursuit of him.
“I kicked it into high gear… we caught the guy. We returned the lady’s GPS.
“It feels incredibly rewarding to assist others. It gives me strength and energy.”
Buford Balony says: If you haven’t witnessed this fighter in action, you really should. Even at this point in his career, he may very well be the best fighter in the world.
