The speculation surrounding Daniel Ricciardo’s potential partnership with Sebastian Vettel at Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the upcoming season has grown stronger, with German media indicating that the agreement is finalized.
According to the report, the official announcement regarding Ricciardo’s promotion is expected to occur at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend.
Currently in his second year with Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso, the Australian has been seen as a leading contender for the position since Mark Webber, his fellow countryman, confirmed his departure from F1 at the end of the season.
Kimi Raikkonen, who drives for Lotus, was previously considered Ricciardo’s main competitor for the seat, but now he is rumored to be associated with Felipe Massa’s spot alongside Fernando Alonso at Ferrari.
Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, has acknowledged the timing of the Red Bull announcement but refrained from providing any additional details.
“We are not going to make anything known before Spa,” he reportedly stated.
“I cannot add any more to this.”
The report highlights Ricciardo’s capacity to collaborate effectively with Vettel, referencing the 24-year-old’s remarks about his relationship with the German.
“Sebastian and I have had dinner together a couple of times. I get on well with him,” he shared.
Nevertheless, Ricciardo expressed his determination to challenge for victories against the three-time reigning champion.
“I also want to win. That’s why I drive Formula 1. I want to be the best,” he asserted.
Last month, Ricciardo participated in the Silverstone Young Driver Test for Red Bull, posting a lap time just 0.3 seconds off Vettel’s fastest time.
