New F1 race numbers released by FIA

The new race numbers for the upcoming season and beyond have been confirmed in the official 2014 Formula One entry list that has been published.

2014 F1 race numbers

The FIA, the sport’s governing body, offered drivers the option to select numbers ranging from 2 to 99, with the defending world champion assigned the #1.

This rule modification aims to enhance the sport’s marketing capabilities.

Sebastian Vettel, the current world champion, has indicated that he will choose #5 if he relinquishes the title he has held since 2010.

His team-mate at Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo, has opted for number 3.

Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has selected #14, the same number he wore during his World Karting Championship victory.

In contrast, Kimi Raikkonen, his counterpart, has picked #7, the number that secured him the Formula One world title with Ferrari in 2007.

Jenson Button of McLaren has made a similar choice to Raikkonen, as he will race with #22, the number he carried in his world title year of 2009.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes has chosen his former kart racing number, 44.
