Daniel Geale wants to defend his title in Tasmania

IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale wants to make his first title defence in Australia, possibly in his home state of Tasmania.

Danny Geale returned to Sydney on Tuesday after winning the title with a 12-round split-points decision over Sebastian Sylvester in Germany at the weekend.

Sylvester has already said he is willing to fight Geale in Australia, if the Australian grants him a rematch.

But Geale, 30, hasn’t ruled out fighting another Australian, including Garth Wood.

He also said that he would have no problems facing Sergio Martinez, the Argentine fighter almost universally regarded as the world’s best middleweight and a top three pound-for-pound fighter.

Anthony Mundine has also said that he would like a rematch with Geale, whom The Man defeated in controversial fashion in May 2009, but Geale only recently said that Mundibne and Wood “weren’t real fighters”.
