Carlos Tevez, the striker for Manchester City, has yet to come back from Argentina for a scheduled club meeting, although conversations have occurred with his agents.
After the 27-year-old traveled home to see his family last week, reportedly without his employers’ consent, the Barclays Premier League giants asked for his return to England.
Despite this, Tevez is still in South America as negotiations proceed between the club and his representatives.
“Throughout the weekend, several meetings and conference calls took place,” stated Tevez’s representative.
“Though Carlos remains in Argentina, both parties appear to agree on wanting a swift and smooth resolution.
“Negotiations will most likely continue for the foreseeable future.”
Reports indicate that the meeting with Manchester City officials was part of a disciplinary process; however, Tevez’s agents claim they were not informed of this.
They have also dismissed assertions from South America claiming the striker received a medical certificate justifying his absence.
“The meeting that Carlos was asked to attend today, which he ultimately missed, does not, in our opinion, constitute part of any ongoing disciplinary procedure,” Tevez’s representative explained.
“Our understanding is that no disciplinary procedures have been initiated by City.”
City has chosen not to comment on the latest updates.
Speculation about Tevez’s return to Argentina surfaced last week. This coincided with the news that he would not challenge a club-imposed fine due to misconduct.
Tevez had been deemed guilty of improper conduct—one of five contract breaches—during the UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich on September 27.
Initially fined four weeks’ wages, that amount was subsequently reduced after intervention from the Professional Footballers’ Association.
