An approach from the North Queensland Cowboys to sign Braith Anasta for the upcoming season has been turned down by the Sydney Roosters.
Peter Jourdain, the chief executive of the Cowboys, sent a letter to the Roosters requesting permission to initiate discussions with their captain. However, Roosters boss Steve Noyce stated that Anasta will remain with the team in 2011.
“Braith is under contract with the Roosters for 2011 and he will be representing our club,” Noyce informed reporters.
“I am not aware of what his manager or Peter Jourdain may have communicated, but we will not grant any club permission to speak with him regarding playing elsewhere in 2011.”
There had been rumors suggesting that Anasta was eager to leave the club after his position was changed from his preferred five-eighth to lock this year to make space for Dally M medal winner Todd Carney.
Nonetheless, the Sydney captain has previously refuted the claims regarding his desire to depart, insisting instead that he wishes to conclude his career with the club.
