Little Johnnie’s neighbor welcomed a baby into their family. Sadly, the newborn arrived without ears.
Upon returning home from the hospital, Johnnie’s family received an invitation to visit the new baby. Prior to their departure, Little Johnnie’s dad sat him down to discuss the baby’s condition, emphasizing the lack of ears.
His father warned him that any mention of the baby’s missing ears, or even the word ears itself, would lead to a serious punishment when they returned home.
Little Johnnie assured his dad that he understood perfectly. As he peered into the crib, he remarked, “What a beautiful baby.”
The mother responded, “Thank you, Little Johnnie.” Johnnie continued, “He has such lovely little hands and feet, an adorable little nose, and really lovely eyes. Can he see?”
“Yes,” the mother confirmed, “we are truly grateful; the doctor said he has 20/20 vision.”
“That’s wonderful,” Little Johnnie replied, “because he’d be in big trouble if he needed glasses.”
