Brisbane to Perth

A flight from Brisbane to Perth has a male lawyer sitting next to a blonde woman. He leans over and suggests a fun game to her. However, the blonde prefers to nap and politely declines, turning to the window for some shut-eye.

Undeterred, the lawyer insists that the game is simple and entertaining. He explains: “I will ask you a question, and if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5, and if I don’t know it, I pay you.”

Again, she kindly refuses, attempting to get some sleep. The lawyer, now a bit irritated, proposes a new deal: “If you don’t know the answer, you owe me $5, but if I can’t answer, I’ll give you $50.” He believes he will easily win, assuming she won’t know the answers since she’s blonde.

Intrigued by the stakes, the blonde thinks there will be no end to his persistence unless she participates, so she agrees to play.

The lawyer begins by asking, “What’s the distance from the earth to the moon?” To this, the blonde silently reaches into her purse, retrieves a five-dollar bill, and hands it over to him.

Then it’s her turn. She asks the lawyer, “What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?” The lawyer appears puzzled.

He pulls out his laptop and searches through his references, connecting wirelessly to his modem and scouring the internet and the National Library. Frustration builds as he sends out emails to all his contacts, both personal and professional, seeking the answer, but to no avail. Over an hour later, he wakes the blonde and gives her $50. She accepts it graciously and turns away to resume her nap.

Feeling quite annoyed, the lawyer nudges her again, asking, “So, what is the answer?” Without responding, the blonde simply reaches into her purse, hands him $5, and returns to sleep.
