In Britain’s Western Islands, a sheep believed to be the oldest in the world has tragically died after falling from a 45m cliff.
The blackface ewe, known as Twiggy due to her lean appearance, was only a month shy of reaching her 26th birthday.
According to crofter John Maciver, her impressive longevity can be attributed to still having most of her teeth, which allowed her to graze with ease, as well as her “independent spirit.”
In general, sheep have a lifespan of no more than 12 years. The ewe was discovered deceased on rocks at a beach on Lewis in the Western Isles.
