In disbelief, a family is reeling after their pet hamster astonishingly returned from the dead and managed to claw his way out of a grave measuring 50cm.
Dave Eyley discovered his four-year-old hamster had gone “cold and lifeless” in its cage during the Easter weekend, prompting him to bury the pet in Wantage, southern England.
However, the next day, a neighbor spotted the adventurous rodent, named “Rhino,” darting around the garden.
Mr. Eyley, 49, initially believed it was a mistake, but upon checking the burial site, he found a five-centimetre hole where the hamster had escaped from its plastic tub.
He expressed: “When I buried him, he was in rigor mortis – and now he’s running around.
“He’s a brave little creature and appears unaffected by his experience of being dead and buried. We’re shocked – yet thrilled to have him back.”
