A woman was mauled to death by a lion while she was engaged in sex with her boyfriend.
Sharai Mawera passed away at the scene after the animal attacked her during their encounter at a remote location in the African bush. Her boyfriend, fleeing in the nude, managed to raise the alarm.
A friend recounted: ‘Her body was covered with bloody bruises. Her neck and abdomen had sustained severe injuries from the mauling.’
‘The couple frequently met at that same location, now bereaved by the loss of his girlfriend.’
‘While they were in the midst of their romantic activities, the lion approached unexpectedly from behind and roared.’
‘The boyfriend managed to flee and stopped at a safe distance, witnessing his partner being attacked. He then rushed to the road in search of help.’
Authorities responded to the scene of the incident near Kariba in Zimbabwe, where they discovered the victim deceased.
According to her friend, Ms. Mawera worked in a market, while her companion was a fisherman.
Armed rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority are currently on the hunt for the lion, believed to also have attacked a man who was walking home from a nightclub over the weekend.
The remains of the man were located on the outskirts of the town, situated near the Zambezi River.
Police suspect that because the woman was mauled rather than consumed, the same lion may be responsible for both incidents, having not fully regained its hunger after partially devouring its initial victim.
The state-controlled Herald newspaper of Zimbabwe reported: ‘Residents in the town are now living in fear as the lions continue to roam freely, yet to be apprehended.’
