The perfect job for lazy bastards

Is your ideal job staying in bed?

Currently, Nasa is seeking a number of eager volunteers to spend 70 days predominantly inactive at its headquarters in Houston.

The perfect job

These couch potatoes will earn approximately $5,000 a month as part of the US space agency’s research focused on the impacts of microgravity on the human body.

‘Among the various challenges faced by crew members in the space environment, mimicking microgravity in an experimental context has proven to be one of the most challenging,’ states Nasa.

‘Scientists and engineers are examining bed rest as an experimental analog for space flight, since prolonged exposure to a head-down tilt position can replicate many of the effects associated with a low-gravity environment.’

Candidates who are successful will remain in a tilted bed around the clock for the duration of the 70-day project, during which they are free to play video games, surf the web, or watch television.

Researchers will monitor how long-term restriction in a low-gravity environment impacts muscle and bone strength, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being.

After the study concludes, the ‘pillownauts’ will participate in a two-week rehabilitation period.
