However, it might not be as you imagine – Professor David Ley utilizes the handheld device to massage his students’ throats, claiming it relaxes the larynx and expands the singer’s vocal range.
The drama educator from the University of Alberta, along with his actors and singers, can anticipate this unconventional method to refine their vocal skills.
He applies the vibrators, which he stumbled upon during a visit to a sex shop, to their throats.
“I understand it might seem unusual. I recognize there’s a humorous aspect, but it’s effective. It alleviates tension in the larynx and enhances both range and projection,” he stated.
After several students expressed discomfort with his fingers on their throats, the professor found himself at a loss—leading him to devise this innovative solution.
He continued: “It not only released tension in the laryngeal muscles but also appeared to induce vibrations in the vocal folds.
“My goal is to assist the individual in reaching that high note or tapping into their emotional energy.”
