The unlikely world-wide fame gained by Paul the Octopus came from his accurate predictions of several World Cup matches, but he has now died.
According to his owners, it seems that he passed away peacefully due to natural causes.
Paul successfully predicted the winners of every Germany game in the World Cup, including the final, by choosing one of two boxes, each containing a treat made of mussel, with the teams marked on the outside.
He will be honored with a permanent memorial at the sea-life center in Germany where he resided, and various commercial ventures are set to keep his legacy alive.
Next year, a documentary will be released.
