During his marriage ceremony to a cow, a teenager collapsed, having previously been caught engaging in sexual activity with the animal after alleging that it had flirted with him.
Eighteen-year-old Ngurah Alit, who is unemployed, was observed standing naked behind the cow in a paddy field in Bali.
He asserted that he perceived the cow as a young and attractive woman, claiming it had enticed him with sweet compliments.
Subsequently, he had to wed the cow to purify the coastal village of Yeh Embang from the act of bestiality. However, during the marriage ritual, Alit fainted as locals and police, brought in to manage the media presence, watched him while his mother began to scream.
In a twist of events, he quickly became a widower when his new wife was submerged in the sea during the Pecaruan ritual. Alit himself was only symbolically dunked and washed on the beach.
Chief Ida Bagus Legawa proclaimed that the village had been successfully ‘cleansed’ of the ‘defilement from the incident.’
