A little startled by the affections of this overly friendly ostrich was Kai the rhino.
When the bird pecked at flies and insects on the rhino’s hide, the two-tonne beast’s back legs lifted off the ground.
‘Known for their intelligence deficit, ostriches possess brains smaller than their eyeballs, and this bird likely believed it was being friendly,’ remarked Abi Crowley, marketing manager for Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire, England.
‘It’s safe to say that this encounter startled Kai, who has never met an ostrich before.’
At the age of ten, Kai is the park’s latest arrival, brought in to mate with the female rhinos Mkuzi and Mtuba-tuba.
