According to reports, redhead donors are being turned away by sperm bank Cryos due to low demand.
Despite an increase in demand for sperm donors, Cryos director Ole Schou informed the Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet that the only area where red-haired sperm donors are sought after is Ireland, where their supplies are reportedly selling ‘like hot cakes.’
He remarked: ‘I do not believe a redhead is chosen unless the partner, such as a sterile male, has red hair, or if a single woman has a preference for redheads. And that may not be a large number, especially in the latter scenario.’
Additionally, Mr. Schou noted that the most sought-after genes are those that contribute to having a child with brown hair or brown eyes.
Currently, Cryos’ facilities are at full capacity, and there exists a waiting list of approximately 600 individuals wanting to donate.
The sperm bank supplies semen to more than 65 countries worldwide.
