Faking it: World Air Sex Championships

Introducing the World Air Sex Championships: a provocative event that makes even Miley Cyrus’s twerking seem mild, where participants energetically simulate sexual experiences in front of a live audience.

To dazzle the judges, enthusiastic contestants must perform a complete sexual encounter with an imaginary partner, blending romance and humor while accompanied by their chosen soundtrack.

The performance should encompass the moment of meeting their ‘partner’, the art of seduction, foreplay, and the act of intercourse.

Chris Trew, the mastermind behind the Air Sex World Championship, remarked: ‘Picture something we consider daily – sex – transformed into a sport where the aim is to evoke laughter.

‘Air Sex is a celebration. Air Sex is an extraordinary comedy performance. Air Sex is a competitive pursuit with invested audiences.’

Originally conceived in 2006 by a group of single Japanese men at a karaoke bar in Tokyo, comedian Chris, 32, discovered a video online and decided to elevate the air guitar events he was organizing.

Thus, in 2009, the official Air Sex World Championship came into existence. After five competitions, over a third of the participants are now women, with events taking place across 30 cities in the United States before crowning an ultimate champion.

The only constraints are governed by the local laws of each competition’s location, although contestants are cautioned against being entirely naked and, similar to the simulated lovemaking, all ‘endings’ are required to be mimicked.

The spectacle has even made its way into mainstream culture, with Chris featuring on America’s Got Talent in 2012. However, his performance was cut short as Judge Howard Stern labeled his sensual antics as ‘highly offensive’.

Driven to expand their comedic journey throughout America and with a documentary about the sport in progress, Chris is set on making the Air Sex World Championship a truly international event, starting with the UK.

He stated: ‘Every single person from the UK who has attended the show tells me it would be phenomenal there.

‘I believe it will resonate well with the comedic tastes as well – it’s something that urgently needs to unfold.

‘Sex is an essential part of life, and presenting it in a manner that allows us to find humor in it is incredibly impactful.

‘Ultimately, the Air Sex Championships are downright hilarious, and you won’t want to miss it.’
