Typically, chipmunks feast on nuts, fruit, and occasionally insects – yet this specific little creature seems to prefer smoking cigarettes.
Captured by holidaymaker Joanne Evans, aged 29, this squirrel-like animal was spotted on Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands, in the Costa Calma resort.
Joanne, who works as a civilian police officer and was vacationing with her boyfriend Jon Nunn, 31, mentioned: ‘As we were just about to leave the beach, the chipmunk appeared over the beach wall with a cigarette in its mouth.
‘It was such an unusual sight that I reached for my camera and took a picture. It stayed there for a brief moment before darting off into a bush.’
Hailing from Urmston, Manchester, Joanne noted that while chipmunks are a frequent sight around the island’s beach areas, they are not usually seen with a cigarette.
Typically, their diet includes grain, nuts, fruit, berries, birds’ eggs, small frogs, fungi, worms, insects, and at times, small mammals like young mice.
