International intelligence agencies, including those from the U.S. and UK, are vigilantly observing online reports of tanks seen in the streets of Beijing and shots fired within the secure leaders’ compound, which is situated adjacent to the prominent tourist site, the Forbidden City.
Various popular Chinese microblogging platforms, including Sina Weibo, QQ Weibo, and the bulletin board of Baidu, reported ‘abnormalities’ occurring in Beijing on the evening of March 19.
