Last night, actor Charlie Sheen pleaded guilty to assault stemming from a Christmas Day dispute with his wife, Brooke Mueller.
At the Aspen, Colorado Pitkin County Courthouse, Sheen, aged 44, received a sentence comprising 30 days in a rehabilitation facility, 30 days of probation, and 36 hours of anger management.
Initially, it seemed he could be facing up to three years in prison; however, serious charges, including felony menacing and criminal mischief, were dropped as part of his plea agreement with prosecutors, effectively lightening the charges against the actor, known for his role in Two and a Half Men.
Sheen’s attorney, Yale Galanter, informed the press outside the courthouse that Sheen would resume filming the TV comedy Two and a Half Men on Tuesday, having signed a new contract.
“I am eager to comply with the court’s ruling, move forward with my life, and leave this all behind.”
In contrast, a former Aspen police officer who spoke with Brooke Mueller and photographed her following the incident expressed her dismay at Sheen receiving what she deemed the “lightest possible sentence.”
“I wish the judge could have witnessed what Mrs. Sheen looked like on that Christmas Day,” stated Valerie McFarlane, who was dismissed from the Aspen Police Department earlier this year for unrelated reasons.
Claiming that Sheen had brandished a knife at her after drinking heavily on December 25, Brooke, aged 33, made serious accusations against him.
According to a police report, Mueller claimed Sheen held a switchblade to her throat while pinning her to her bed.
The report alleged that Sheen warned his former spouse: “You better be in fear. If you tell anybody, I’ll kill you. Your mother’s money means nothing. I can hire ex-police officers who know how to handle this, and they’ll leave no trace.”
An officer from Aspen Police later noted he observed “red marks on the upper part of the front of her [Mueller’s] neck.”
As the proceedings progress, the estranged couple is moving forward with their divorce, which they had initiated earlier this year.
In mid-June, it was reported that a settlement had been reached regarding their divorce.
Claims have surfaced that Sheen and his wife enjoyed threesomes with other women.
According to a source, “Brooke is bisexual. She and Charlie have had more than one woman share their bed during their brief marriage.”
The insider also disclosed to a US website: “Some of the women they slept with also used drugs with them.”
However, they reportedly deferred filing for divorce immediately to prevent providing the prosecution in Sheen’s assault case with extra leverage.
Sheen has previously encountered legal issues multiple times throughout the 1990s, facing charges connected to drugs, domestic violence, and prostitution.
In 1997, he was tried for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Brittany Ashland, at his California residence.
He has also faced allegations of assault against his ex-wife, actress Denise Richards, who is a former James Bond girl.
