Best beard winner of 2011 is a work of art

The title of the world’s best beard has been claimed by a German hairdresser at the World Beard and Moustache Championship in Trondheim, Norway.

At the age of 47, Elmar Weisser triumphed over 160 competitors, showcasing his intricate facial hair design shaped like a moose.

This marks the third occasion that Mr. Weisser has secured the championship title.

His previous victories include a beard styled after Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate in 2005, followed by a depiction of London’s Tower Bridge in 2007.

He shared that his preparation for the Trondheim competition commenced at 7am, assisted by his sister.

“When not styled, my beard reaches my waist. It’s somewhat folded up,” he noted.

Since 1995, the World Beard and Moustache Championship has occurred biennially, and the organizers have dubbed it “the premier event in the international sport of bearding.”

Competitors from around the globe participate in 14 different categories such as natural goatee, sideburns freestyle, Hungarian moustache, and imperial partial beard.

Though historically dominated by Europeans, organizers claim that the US, which has hosted the event twice, is swiftly emerging as “the world’s new facial hair super power.”
