Although having snails crawl on your face might seem like a nightmare, Japanese women are being provided with this unique beauty treatment.
Starting on Monday, women looking to eliminate dead skin, unclog their pores, or turn back time can opt for a snail facial.
In a demonstration at the Tokyo-based beauty salon Ci:z.Labo, Manami Takamura, an employee, highlighted the advantages of snails by placing three of the creatures on a woman’s face.
She remarked: ‘The slime from snails aids in removing old cells, soothing the skin post-sunburn, and providing moisture.
‘This way, you receive 100 per cent pure snail essence applied directly to the skin.’
It is claimed that snail slime has anti-aging properties for human skin, and some cosmetic products already incorporate escargot essence.
However, Ci:z.Labo beauty salon is pioneering what it asserts is Japan’s first live snail treatment.
As part of the salon’s ‘Celebrity Escargot Course,’ customers can indulge in a 60-minute treatment priced at approximately $250.
This experience begins with cleansing the face, followed by gently placing the snails on the cheeks and forehead, allowing them to roam freely.
Subsequently, a variety of massages, masks, and electrical pulse machines are used, infused with creams that contain snail mucus to ensure the live secretions are absorbed into the skin.
Sayaka Ito shared that she found the treatment so soothing that she nearly dozed off.
‘The sensation of the snails moving on my face is a bit surprising at first, but it’s actually quite pleasant. My skin genuinely feels smooth and hydrated,’ she stated.
