Following allegations that several primary school students had their mouths taped shut, a teacher has been suspended.
The Education Department confirmed today that the teacher’s suspension was prompted by complaints received from parents.
Reports indicate that the incident, involving nine primary school students, occurred at O’Connor Primary School, located in Boulder, WA.
In response to the allegations, the department has initiated an inquiry and referred the case to law enforcement.
Paul O’Connor, executive director of professional standards and conduct at the Education Department, stated that his unit has received claims regarding multiple students and sticky tape.
Additionally, Mr. O’Connor mentioned that the Corruption and Crime Commission has been informed.
“Given the serious nature of the allegations, the teacher implicated has been removed from their teaching duties while investigations proceed,” Mr. O’Connor said.
“The school has sent a letter to parents informing them of the ongoing investigation and encouraging anyone with concerns to reach out to the school.”
