Mexico wins Miss Universe

Jimena Navarette, an STUNNING brunette, was crowned Miss Universe yesterday after stating to the judges: “Teach kids family values.”

The beauty contest prize was claimed by the 22-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico, during an event held in Las Vegas.

Taking second place was Miss Jamaica Yendi Philipps, while Miss Australia Jenista Campbell secured third. Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska finished fourth, and the anticipated favorite, Miss Philippines Venus Raj, came in fifth. Having begun her modeling career at 15, Jimena was the first to respond to an interview question during the event.

Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek posed a question regarding unsupervised internet use, to which she emphasized the importance of parental vigilance over their children.

Her response was: “I do believe that the internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time.

“We must ensure that we teach them (children) the values we learned as a family.”

Miss USA Rima Faikh, the first Muslim-American to win the Miss USA competition, unfortunately did not reach the final round.

Jimena is now recognized as Mexico’s second Miss Universe, following Lupita Jones, who won the title in 1991.

She succeeds Miss Universe 2009, Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela.

After her victory, Jimena expressed: “I want to give my parents a big hug.

“There was a lot of effort and a lot of sacrifice.”

With fans tuning in from around 190 countries on television and following updates on social media, Jimena along with her fellow competitors showcased extravagant national costumes during their introductions.

The opening number featured them dancing in silver and black outfits before the announcement of the top 15 finalists.

As the final 15 paraded in swimsuits, Cirque du Soleil musicians performed Elvis Presley songs.

The last ten captivated the audience in exquisite gowns while John Legend and the Roots delivered a soulful medley.

Jimena won a range of prizes, including a salary that remains undisclosed, a luxurious New York apartment with living expenses, and a year-long scholarship to the New York Film Academy, along with housing for the duration of her reign.

Additionally, she received jewellery, clothes, and shoes.
