A Swedish man has faced charges after shooting into the night sky, claiming to police that his actions were meant to prevent an alien invasion.
The 23-year-old, convinced that UFOs were hovering over his apartment in Dalarna, central Sweden, took hold of his pistol.
Protruding from his window, he discharged several live rounds, believing he had effectively scared away the extraterrestrial intruders…or so he maintained.
In truth, his actions only succeeded in frightening his girlfriend and getting himself arrested.
Though no injuries occurred, the Dala-Demokraten newspaper reported that he was charged with illegal possession of a weapon and threatening an officer.
The gunman maintained that he had struck one of the spacecraft directly…which led to an explosion…resulting in his psychiatric evaluation.
According to a police memo, “We do not believe that the threats voiced were anything other than the desperation of a confused person.”
