In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lance Armstrong admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs.
The length of the interview was two and a half hours.
Reports indicate that prior to speaking with Oprah, he visited his Livestrong Cancer Foundation and offered an emotional apology to the staff, which brought tears to some of them.
He expressed regret for disappointing the staff and committed to doing everything possible to rehabilitate the Foundation’s image.
Armstrong encouraged the staff to continue their fight in support of cancer patients and their families.
The interview, set to air on Thursday on Foxtel, may be sincere…or it could be otherwise.
As a nation, we are known for our willingness to forgive and support those who admit their wrongdoings. This is precisely what Lance Armstrong has done. However, does he really have any other option at this point?
I hope he fully discloses everything in the interview, and I wish that Oprah will seek the truth, rather than merely embracing tearful recounts.
Lance, you have misled the world and let your Cancer Foundation down for many years. A televised confession of “I’m sorry” might not be sufficient for the Australian public.
You have the financial means…so why not start contributing to your charity? Furthermore, do them a great service by removing your name from the Foundation and becoming a quiet benefactor.
Your victories have robbed genuine athletes and professionals of achievements that should never have been yours to claim.
