Kevin Costner to speak at Whitney’s funeral

Set to speak at Whitney Houston’s funeral today is her co-star from the 1992 film The Bodyguard, Kevin Costner.

Also addressing the attendees will be Clive Davis, the record label executive who signed her, while Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder are set to perform at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, a venue where Houston sang during her childhood.

The funeral of Whitney Houston will be live-streamed on the internet. A deal allowing the Associated Press to film the ceremony and broadcast it online has reportedly been made with the late singer’s publicist, Kristen Foster, with plans for broadcasters to access the event via satellite as well.

Taking place today (Saturday, February 18) at 5pm (GMT) or 12pm (EST), the service follows the transport of Houston’s body from California to Newark on Monday (February 13), which was carried out in a gold hearse to the funeral home.

Last Saturday (February 11), Houston passed away at the age of 48, as she was found underwater and unconscious in a bath at a Beverly Hills hotel. While there have been widespread reports of her death stemming from an overdose of Xanax and other prescription medications mixed with alcohol, authorities have indicated that it could take up to eight weeks to officially confirm the cause of death.

A spokesman for the police has stated that while there were prescription drugs found in the singer’s room, assertions linking them to her death are still merely “rumours and speculation.”
