Starting now, Google’s cameras mounted on sticks will be exploring the interiors of buildings as they begin to feature the insides of shops and commercial spaces on Google Streetview.
Today marks the beginning of Business Photos by Google accepting applications from shops and businesses.
From restaurants and gyms to shops across the globe, businesses can now request a visit from a Google-approved photographer for some photos.
The captured images will be featured on the shop’s Place page, with distinctive 360° panorama shots added to Streetview. As a result, users navigating the virtual streets of a city will be able to enter a shop virtually and check out the available merchandise.
Initially, the Google snapping service will be rolled out in select cities in the US, as well as London, Paris, and various locations in Australia and New Zealand. Notably, Berlin will not be included, likely due to the less favorable history Germans have with Google cameras. Google seeks applications globally, but they aim to prioritize regions with high demand.
The benefits for businesses are quite apparent: it offers additional advertising and an opportunity to attract customers to the store. For gyms, it provides an excellent way to showcase their equipment.
Moreover, Google has considered how to handle situations where a business undergoes significant renovations. Should you decide to redecorate, you can arrange for the photographer to return and capture another 360° Streetview image.
As for Google, this initiative enhances their global coverage compared to what they previously had. It won’t be long before live-streaming from personal spaces becomes a reality.
