Eddie Murphy quits Oscars

Eddie Murphy, the actor and comedian, has stepped down as the host for the 2012 Oscar ceremony, which is scheduled for February.

His resignation follows the recent departure of producer Brett Ratner, who is a friend of Murphy and made a derogatory remark publicly.

During a Q&A session about his film Tower Heist, Ratner used the term “fags.”

Murphy was brought on as the next host of the Oscars when Ratner was appointed the producer for the 2012 ceremony.

According to reports, Murphy’s withdrawal may pose a challenge for the Academy Awards.

The awards show has experienced a decline in television ratings in recent years and faces competition from newer award ceremonies that attract younger viewers.

Murphy’s selection to host the 2012 ceremony signified a return to a well-established tradition of having a comedian at the helm, reminiscent of successful ceremonies hosted by legends like Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, and Billy Crystal.

Both the Academy and Eddie Murphy emphasized that the decision was not made in a hostile manner.

Academy President Tom Sherak commented on Murphy’s choice to step back, stating, “I understand how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well.”

Murphy expressed, “I was genuinely looking forward to contributing to the show that our production team and writers had just begun to develop, but I am confident that the new production team and host will perform wonderfully.”

As of now, the Academy has yet to announce replacements for both Murphy and Ratner.
