A robbery at a take-away shop in Sydney has been thwarted by a staff member who threw chilli sauce at the thief.
A man is left embarrassed after being drenched in chilli while he allegedly attempted to rob a takeaway shop in the southern part of Sydney.
According to police, the 24-year-old had a bucket of chilli poured over him as a female employee intervened to prevent him from stealing cash from the till in Rosebery.
Officers discovered the man lying on the floor and suffering from burns to his face.
Inspector Ralph Deans noted that when police arrived, they encountered an unusual situation at the shop.
“It seems she defended herself with whatever was nearby,” he remarked.
“You can imagine with a face full of chilli, he sustained some burns to his face and appeared quite embarrassed when police came to apprehend him.
“The shop was in total disarray; it was a mess. Counters were pushed aside, chairs were overturned, the till was on the ground and smashed, and naturally, the robber was easily identifiable.”
