Carrie Fisher, the legendary Star Wars icon, passed away from a heart attack during a flight from London to LA.
Her heart simply failed her. Throughout her life, Carrie Fisher battled alcoholism, substance abuse, and depression. She was 60 years old.
The daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher starred in over 40 films, including Shampoo and The Blues Brothers.
Additionally, she was an accomplished author, having penned works such as ‘The Best Awful There Is’ and ‘Wishful Drinking’.
In her autobiography from 2016, ‘The Princess Diarist’, she reflects on her relationships with Paul Simon and Dan Aykroyd, and even discloses her affair with Harrison Ford in 1976.
During a talk show in the UK in September of this year, Carrie Fisher recounted that while writing The Princess Diarist, she sent a copy to Harrison Ford to seek his approval. Reportedly, Ford quipped, ‘I’ll send the lawyers round’.
However, I find some comfort in the fact that Princess Leia had an affair with Harrison Ford. The chemistry between them was incredible on screen. Now, when you revisit Star Wars (which I know you will), it feels even more authentic.
Your outfits will be cherished even more from now on. Yet, your legacy will extend far beyond just the costumes.
Carrie Fisher – an icon of the silver screen, yes, due to Star Wars, but undeniably an icon in her own right.
