An unexpected windfall of $50,000 was donated to a charity shop in the form of a suitcase.
At the Pomona thrift shop on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, staff were taken by surprise when they discovered the substantial sum hidden in a secret compartment.
Initially, the suitcase was priced at just $5 before the cash was noticed after a customer brought it to the checkout.
Following a two-week investigation by the police, the elderly owner of the mysterious suitcase was located and able to provide a detailed description of the case and its contents.
“In order to make a final confirmation, we are awaiting further details,” stated the Queensland police.
“There appears to be a clear indication that the owner has been identified.”
Authorities suspect the suitcase was inadvertently given away when the woman relocated, but cautioned that she might have to wait up to two months to retrieve her lost funds.
