Plans for a Nirvana reunion tour have been denied by Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.
This announcement follows Grohl’s recent collaboration with former Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, along with Sir Paul McCartney on the new song ‘Cut Me Some Slack’, created for his upcoming documentary, Sound City. A representative for Grohl has labeled the rumors as “nonsense,” emphasizing that there will not be a Nirvana tour.
The group performed the song at last week’s 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, and McCartney reunited with the surviving Nirvana members for a performance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Additionally, they have shared the studio version of ‘Cut Me Some Slack’, which can be listened to below and is currently available for download on iTunes.
In other news, details regarding the Sound City soundtrack were unveiled last week. Entitled ‘Sound City – Real to Reel’, it will include collaborations such as one between Grohl and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks on ‘You Can’t Fix This’, as well as a track called ‘Mantra,’ featuring Grohl, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Joshua Homme, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
The soundtrack will also include contributions from Peter Hayes and Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, along with Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age collaborator Alain Johannes.
This film marks the directorial debut for Grohl and narrates the history of the iconic California recording studio where notable albums like Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ and Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ were created. It will be screened at the Sundance Film Festival in the US, taking place from January 17-27, 2013.
