The Smiths love Slow Moving Millie cover

Members of The Smiths have expressed positive feedback regarding Slow Moving Millie’s cover of ‘Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want’, which serves as the soundtrack for a TV ad campaign this Christmas, as revealed by the artist.

Amelia Warner, the singer’s real name, indicated that Morrissey called her rendition “delightful,” while guitarist Johnny Marr thinks it’s “great.”

Nonetheless, Warner acknowledged receiving some backlash from fans of the indie icons on the internet. She remarked, “I’ve had a few people being furious at me on Twitter, saying, ‘How dare you?’ But I haven’t done anything to the original. I think you’ll find it still exists.”

In response to fans who were shocked and disappointed that a cover of the song was included in the recent Christmas advertisements of the department store, Johnny Marr took to Twitter, insisting that its legacy remains “unsullied.”

He stated, “Writing ‘Please Please…’ one Friday in 1984 is one of the best memories of my life. This ad has not sullied that memory one bit.”
