Amelle Berrabah, the singer of Sugababes, has been convicted of assaulting a woman at a London nightclub.
On September 2nd, the star appeared in the City Of Westminster Magistrates’ Court to address a charge of common assault following an altercation with Danielle Dodoo at Alto, the nightclub owned by Berrabah’s boyfriend, Tom Benn. She received a conditional discharge and was mandated to pay $500 in compensation.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the singer assaulted Dodoo after she asked Berrabah to be mindful of her surroundings. Dodoo recounted, “She was slurring. She kind of leaned up towards my face and said something like she was going to bite my nose off. She had her hand around my neck and it must have been there for a few seconds.”
Berrabah contended that she had only been pinched and denied scratching Dodoo. However, District Judge Michael Snow remarked that Berrabah had caused “nasty, unpleasant” injuries in the incident.
He opted not to impose a harsher penalty, stating that Dodoo’s testimony seemed to be influenced by revenge and spite.
Following the verdict, Berrabah made a public apology to her fans. She stated, “Following my conviction for assault, I would like to offer my unreserved apologies to the band’s fans, my bandmates, our record label, and my family.”
This incident marks not her first legal challenge; the singer was charged with drink-driving last year.
