Further details of the upcoming new album from Queens Of The Stone Age have been released.
In a handwritten correspondence to MOJO magazine, the hard rock band expanded on frontman Josh Homme’s earlier statement that the album “sounds like you’re running in a dream the whole time.”
They noted: “These songs aren’t just memories of past experiences. Instead, they reflect our current realities. Even negative experiences can transform into memorable songs. At least for us.”
The entirety of the letter states: ‘A stitch in time will save you 9, but…There’s no way we could have prepared for the expedition up the river that is this album. In our grand vision, we expected our lives and recordings to flow seamlessly. However, the truth has proven to be chaotic and unexpected.’
It goes on to say: “These songs aren’t just memories of past experiences. Instead, they reflect our current realities. Even negative experiences can transform into memorable songs. At least for us. The record sounds like running in a dream inside a codeine cabaret. I hope you understand what that means, as we certainly don’t. Sounds like a bunch of pretentious sh..! What? Gotta go, the therapist says our time is up…”.
He may join other already confirmed artists for the recording sessions, including Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails and Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, who will be on drums following Joey Castillo’s departure from the band. The former bassist of the band, Nick Oliveri, is also back in the studio with them.
The album is expected to drop in the first half of this year.
