A million-pound record deal has been secured by the original Sugababes line-up as they embark on their comeback.
Siobhan Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan, both 27, along with 26-year-old Mutya Buena, have formed a partnership with Polydor Records, the label behind Take That and Lady GaGa.
However, due to the absence of any original members in the current line-up, they cannot use the Sugababes name.
An insider from the industry commented: “They’ve been collaborating on new music all year with prominent songwriters and producers.
“The label has begun selecting tracks they believe could restore their former glory.”
Founded in 1998, the group achieved success with their hit Overload.
After Siobhan departed in 2001, Heidi Range joined the group. Mutya left in 2005, leading to the introduction of Amelle Berrabah. In 2009, the last remaining original member, Keisha, exited, making way for Jade Ewen, a Brit Eurovision contestant.
However, last year, the new Sugababes chose to cancel their album initiatives.
Keisha, Mutya, and Siobhan are still in the process of contemplating a new name. The insider remarked: “This is a significant indication that the industry believes they still have what it takes.”
