Following the cancellation of a planned Metallica gig in India, four organisers have been arrested, resulting in fans vandalising the stage.
Scheduled to perform in Delhi, the band announced that the concert was postponed due to a collapsed security barrier in front of the stage.
In response, dozens of upset fans stormed the stage and caused damage to the equipment.
According to police, four executives from DNA Entertainment Network were taken into custody on fraud charges.
Alok Mittal, joint commissioner of police in Gurgaon, near Delhi, stated that a public complaint was filed after DNA Entertainment Network refused to issue refunds for the tickets.
Refund details have been posted on DNA’s website.
Reports indicate that approximately 25,000 fans were in attendance when the concert was cancelled.
The Times of India reported that fans vandalised sound systems and hurled bottles at the LED display screens.
Although organisers attempted to reschedule the show for the next day, they failed to obtain the necessary permit in time.
In a statement, the band mentioned they were “notified that a serious question arose regarding the safety of the concert audience.”
“Our primary concern is always the safety of you, the fans,” they added.
“After we, along with DNA, the promoters of the show, assessed that the security barricade failure could not be adequately repaired, the promoter reluctantly announced the postponement of the show until Saturday.”
“Regrettably, the promoters were unable to secure a permit for a show on such short notice.”
This concert was set to be Metallica’s inaugural performance in India, coinciding with the first Indian Formula One Grand Prix.
