Sinead O’Connor disclosed that she had once received a marriage proposal from Noel Gallagher.
The singer recalled the moment after being asked a question by Gallagher’s brother Liam during an interview for Uncut magazine: “You’ve always been effortlessly cool. How do you manage that?”
O’Connor replied: “Oh, that’s sweet. I’ve never seen myself as cool, but I’m flattered. In fact, it was just before he married Meg Mathews when Liam’s brother Noel asked me to marry him. He probably won’t remember since he was quite out of it at a festival in Amsterdam.”
O’Connor went on to encourage the Gallagher brothers to resolve their disputes for the sake of their mother, Peggy. She expressed: “I am really pleased to hear from Liam because, as a mother, it worries me that he and his brother aren’t getting along well, and their poor mother must be very upset. Please tell Liam I love him and his brother and hope they can reconcile. Do it for mammy’s sake, yer feckers!”
Noel Gallagher married Meg Mathews in Las Vegas in June 1997, but the couple divorced in January 2001. He later tied the knot with longtime partner Sara McDonald in a private ceremony at a hotel in New Forest in June 2011. Sinead O’Connor’s fourth marriage to therapist Barry Herridge ended after just 17 days in January 2012.
