Nine Inch Nails middle aged, still dangerous

Trent Reznor has discussed the comeback of Nine Inch Nails along with their upcoming album, Hesitation Marks.

NIN - Hesitation Marks“Oddly enough, we are now more popular than we have ever been. When we released the single and put tickets for sale, the uncertainty was resolved,” explains Reznor. “This is the largest it’s ever been. Perhaps it’s due to scarcity or the time we took off.”

While working on the lyrics and tone for Hesitation Marks, Reznor was inspired by 1994’s The Downward Spiral; however, he claims that he is now in a significantly more stable state of mind, both mentally and physically.

Furthermore, Reznor cautions fans that they should be ready for surprises in the sequel to 2008’s The Slip: “This isn’t a record where everything cranks up to 11, relying on sound pyrotechnics and scare tactics that I have certainly employed before. However, it also doesn’t come off as the resigned, middle-aged record … It would have been easy to produce uglier and louder music. But that wouldn’t be a safe choice.”

Hesitation Marks is set to be released on September 3.
