Following his recent health concerns that led to hospitalization at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, Morrissey has made a statement.
The singer addressed fans through the site True To You, beginning with the remark: “The reports of my death have been greatly understated.” The former lead singer of The Smiths proceeded to detail that he had been treated for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett’s esophagus, which necessitated the cancellation of several shows.
The shows that were cancelled were already part of a series of dates changed from October of the previous year, when Morrissey ended his tour to return to the UK to care for his ailing mother. Thankfully, she has since recuperated.
He expressed his eagerness to resume his North American tour next week in Las Vegas, stating: “I am fully determined to resume the tour on February 9 at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas. If there’s an audience of any kind in attendance, I just might die with a smile on my face, after all. If I am not there, I shall probably never again be anywhere.”
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the audiences at two recent performances in the US and Australia, referring to them as the finest evenings of his career, saying: “Thank you to everyone present at both Brooklyn (New York) and Melbourne (Australia) during recent weeks for two of the best nights of what might charitably be termed my ‘career.’ My debt to you will outlive time itself.”
